Mike Lees

Research Fellow

Mike Lees is an Assistant Professor at the Universiteit van Amsterdam in the Computational Science Lab (Informatics Institute). Before this he has been an Assistant Professor at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) Singapore. He currently conducts regular research visits to Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore and ITMO University, St Petersburg. At the University of Amsterdam he is the Director for the Master Computational Science.

His current research interests are primarily in modelling and simulation of large scale complex systems. He is particularly interested in understanding the effect that human behavior has on such systems and the important role that individual behavioral interactions have on system level dynamics. Current application areas include the study of human crowds and egress, social contact networks and traffic and transportation systems. In order to simulate such systems it is often necessary to address problems of scalability, so my work also attempts to address this issue using various techniques from distributed simulation, multi-scale modelling and high performance computing.
