Organize differently

Effective approaches to reorganizing education

Reorganizing part of the teaching time could help reduce the teacher shortage. We focus on promising approaches from other countries and within the Netherlands. We explore which approaches of reorganizing education are beneficial for teachers and students. We focus on good examples and work in co-creation on effective approaches.

Objective of our project

The goal of this intervention is to experiment with promising approaches of reorganizing education, such as different ways of structuring teaching time and involving other professionals in schools. We develop an approach in co-creation and test it in various schools.

How do we do this?

We investigate which approaches of reorganizing education are effective and work well for teachers and students. We build on promising existing approaches of reorganizing in schools. We further develop these and test them in other schools as well. Together we examine the effects on teachers and students.

Our findings

An initial literature study shows that some ways of reorganizing education seem promising while others do not. For example, a four-day school week often has negative consequences for students, but they may benefit from the involvement of other professionals. A summary of these findings is available in this presentation.

How can you participate?

Schools interested in the ‘Organizing Differently’ project can contact our co-creation manager Derk Bransen (d.bransen@maastrichtuniversity.nl) for more information. Schools from across the country are welcome.
