During the next four years, Tom will be focusing on teacher shortages in the Netherlands. Specifically, Tom will study the causes and consequences of teacher shortages. The former can relate to job characteristics like workload and work conditions. The latter focuses on the impact shortages have on students. If less education is available, student achievement might decrease, ultimately harming the quality of Dutch education.
On top of that, Tom will try to analyse promising interventions to decrease teacher shortages and mitigate the negative effects that shortages might have on the quality of education. With a focus on terms of employment and working conditions, Tom aspires to find ways to resolve this issue in the educational system.
