Pageturner
One of the most effective ways to stimulate young children’s language development is reading aloud to them. Unfortunately, reading aloud is not a given in all families. This is why Stichting Vinci has developed the innovative and knowledge-based parent program Pageturner, which aims at habit formation. The goal of Pageturner is to make reading aloud a regular part of the daily routine at home with the help of digital picture books (Bereslim). In the coming school year, TaalLab will conduct an impact study on Pageturner.
Goal of our project
How do we do this?
For this research, we need the cooperation of schools. The Pageturner program consists of six parent meetings at the school. A school staff member will conduct these meetings and recruit participating parents. To prepare for this, you will first receive training from Stichting Vinci, which includes a program for each meeting and access to the helpdesk. To measure the language development of preschoolers, researchers will visit the school twice to conduct a few short language tests. Additionally, parents will fill out a questionnaire twice. For more information about the Pageturner program and the impact study, please refer to the info flyer for schools.
How can you participate as school?
We are looking for regular primary schools, preferably with multiple preschool classes. Each school will need to recruit 12-25 parents of preschoolers who would benefit from additional support in their language development to participate in the Pageturner parent program.
Participating schools can take advantage of the subsidy scheme, which amounts to €4166. This subsidy largely compensates for the costs of the parent program and the time investment required from the schools. By participating, you will contribute not only to the knowledge development within Ontwikkelkracht TaalLab but also potentially to the language development of preschoolers who could greatly benefit from this support!
