Reducing dropout rates in teacher training programs

Many teacher training programs have a high dropout rate. We explore how many students drop out and what can be done to reduce this. In the pilot year, we will work with a teacher training program to co-create a program that can reduce student dropout. We also explore the possibility of analyzing teacher training curricula in relation to post-graduation dropout rates.

Objective of our project

The goal of the project on teacher training programs is to reduce the relatively high dropout rate of students in teacher training programs. We do this by analyzing differences in dropout rates, learning from good examples, and trying out effective approaches from other countries.

How do we do this?

We explore the extent of dropout in teacher training programs and what can be done to reduce it. In the pilot year, we start a collaboration with a teacher training program to co-create a program to reduce dropout. We also explore the possibility of analyzing teacher training curricula in relation to post-graduation dropout rates.

How can you participate?

Teacher training programs interested in participating in the Induction project can contact our co-creation manager Derk Bransen (d.bransen@maastrichtuniversity.nl) for more information.
