Assessment and Evaluation

What makes a school a good school? How do you evaluate the quality of a school? What are the achievements, the opportunities, the labour market perspective, the socialization and the well-being of students? And to what extent do schools differ in this respect? And how do students in the Netherlands compare to students in other countries on these different aspects of quality? And does the inspectorate look at the relevant characteristics of quality? How can supervision be improved with recent scientific insights? These questions are extremely relevant in a country where schools have a lot of autonomy to make choices, and there are different views on what quality is and educational inspection wants to innovate. To this end, we use international instruments, Dutch data and data from the Dutch inspectorate of education.

Research and partners

For our work on assessment and evaluation in Education we are partnering with Inspectorate of Education. Within this long lasting partnership that started in 2014, we are working together on evidence based innovation and improvement of school auditing in the Netherlands. To this end, we use international instruments, Dutch statistical data and data from the Dutch inspectorate of education. The results of collaborations are used for the annual publication on the State of Education in the Netherlands. Our research also informs innovation and improvement of the assessment of school quality in the Netherlands.
