Covid-19

The Covid-19 crisis has had a major impact on education. Everyone working in education has done their utmost to reduce disadvantages, provide effective distance learning, and keep students in good standing. However, equity is under pressure. Some students have experienced (further) learning disadvantages and attainment gaps, while others have benefited from distance learning. We investigate the consequences of the Covid-19 crisis for the development of pupils. In addition, we provide promising interventions that can be used to reduce attainment gaps. For this purpose, we design practical guides for schools together with teachers and school leaders.

Research and partners

In August 2020, together with the Inspectorate of Education, the Municipality of Amsterdam and the Netherlands Cohort Study on Education, we received a grant from ZonMW to investigate the effects of the Covid-19 crisis on educational performance and equity in primary education. Within this project, we are working with school leaders and teachers to develop evidence-based toolkits for schools that can help schools cope with the effects of the Covid-19 crisis.
